What is POD (Print on demand?)Updated 2 years ago
Print on Demand (POD) items are made-to-order, meaning they are produced as orders come in, on-demand. The benefit of POD is that there is no stock risk or up front cost for stock. The downside of POD is that there can be some quality control issues on select orders that go out (a typical error rate is around 5%, where standard stocked goods might have an error rate of 2%), further the general quality of print on demand tends to not be quite as high as goods that are manufactured in bulk. Lastly, print on demand items tend to be more expensive per unit than products that are manufactured in bulk. Print on demand items are usually digitally printed, where products made in bulk are usually screen printed, hybrid printed (screen + digital), transferred, or embroidered.
